Have you booked a boudoir shoot and are now anticipating what comes next? We’ve got you covered, girlfriend! We have carefully gathered our top tips to ensure your shoot is a success. We want you to be your absolute best for your next boudoir shoot, because this will be a day you will always remember, and it’s all about YOU!

Research styles

Style options for boudoir are absolutely endless and we suggest spending some time before your shoot researching different options. A great place to start looking is our website, we have a ton of different pictures and you can choose which ones you want to emulate. This is your chance to be whoever you want, so get creative and push the boundaries.

Practice makes Perfect

As with anything in life, a little practice goes a long way. Spend some time rehearsing in the mirror and get playful. We will always guide you throughout the shoot, but it doesn’t hurt to try some different poses beforehand to see what you like.

Sleep

Be sure to get a good amount of sleep on the days leading up to your shoot. Being well rested and relaxed is key, as you want to enjoy this day and have as much fun as possible, and not feel rushed or flustered. However, if you do have a few late nights beforehand, don’t worry; our expert makeup team that will make you look stunning no matter what!

Hydration & eating well

The secret to youthful skin is water! We want you to be glowing for your pictures, so make sure you show up well hydrated and your skin will photograph beautifully. Also, eating well before your shoot is a must. This doesn’t mean dieting beforehand, but we suggest eating a small meal the day of and maybe skipping out on that greasy burger the night before to avoid any unnecessary bloating or breakouts.

Take risks

You will only regret the risks that you don’t take. These photos are for you and your special someone and will stay private if you choose, so live a little and do something you have never done before. This is your time to shine and be wild and free, so take advantage! We promise that you’ll be happy you did.

What to Wear at Your Next Boudoir Shoot

When deciding what to wear for your boudoir shoot, always remember that you want to be comfortable. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear a tight corset; it means you want to feel comfortable posing in your outfit. If you feel awkward wearing a certain garment, chances are it’s a not a good choice for your shoot because it might show in your pictures. Don’t try being someone you aren’t. There are many different definitions of sexy and you just need to figure out which one is for you!

Like any special event in your life, we recommend testing your outfits beforehand. Channel your inner Rachel Zoe, put together all different ensembles, and try them on in front of a mirror. This is the best way to avoid any surprises on the day of the shoot, and you can also decide which outfits are your favourites. Now let’s get to the fun part!

1. Lingerie and Stockings

This is a classic look that never gets old. You have the option of wearing any style of underwear that you are comfortable with, and the stockings add an extra element of sexy.

2. Layering Shirt

We’ve had many women come in with their significant other’s button-up shirts or sweaters to wear. You can also wear an over-sized sweater that drops over the shoulder and can be paired with a cute bra and panties set.

3. Scandalous Costume

The options are endless when you tie in the costume element. Let your imagination run wild and you be whoever you want to be. This option is usually for the more daring, but any woman can pull it off! Go on and have fun!

4. Next to Nothing

When posing in next to nothing, we like to accessorize with a carefully placed bed sheet. It looks incredibly sexy and if these photos are intended for your man, it will make him go crazy!

5. Lace Camisole or Corset

A very cheeky option that’s great for women who want to show off their beautiful curves.

6. Nightgown

This is for the women who love to embrace their feminine side - go on and play up the cuteness!

7. Teddy/Onesie

We love when girls bring these in to wear for their shoot. They are flattering for all body types and are all the rage!

I often hear from girls that they are not photogenic enough to do boudoir photos. What most girls don't realize is that the photos you see in magazines are professionally shot, and not only are the girls already done up with professional hair, makeup and styling, but then they are airbrushed on top of it. Roseanna come to our studio this October wanting some photos to make her look and feel sexy. Like most women she isn't a size 2, she has curves, beautiful wonderful curves and a deadly smile to match. Just because you don't think you look the way a girl who is classified as sexy is supposed to look by societies standards does not mean that you are not pretty, sexy, are photogenic. Being good behind the camera has a lot more to do with letting your personality out and letting a professional take care of the rest. Love your body, and love yourself, you are captivating.

What to Expect at Your First Boudoir Shoot

I know what you’re thinking. How am I going to pose in next to nothing in front of a complete stranger? Let’s squash those initial scary feelings right away. This is YOUR boudoir session, which means you make the rules. You only do what you feel comfortable doing, so if that means wearing more clothes than the “usual” boudoir picture, go right ahead! We want you to be happy and comfortable throughout the shoot. Also, we want to work with you and get to know you. You won’t think of us as strangers by the time of your shoot, but more so as a long time girlfriend you haven’t seen in a while. You can trust us. We take our relationship with you seriously, and only want the best for you and your photos. We have been doing this a long time, and we love to see our stars (YOU) happy and excited! This is your time to shine like the beautiful woman you are.

What to Bring

Now that we have gotten over those initial scary feelings, it’s time for the fun part! Your boudoir shoot is going to be a day to remember. Take time in selecting the outfits you want to wear and remember to bring a few different options, maybe even that racy lingerie set you have been dying to wear. In our experience, even the most conservative women will come in and end up wearing (ahem…or not wearing) something they never dreamt of. You will be surprised at how empowered you feel during these shoots. You are embracing your womanhood and sometimes it just feels good to let go.

On Arrival

When you arrive at our studio, you’ll be greeted by one of us – myself or Calie and have the option of having a glass of wine to celebrate your special day. This sometimes helps with nerves, and come on, who doesn’t love a nice glass of wine! Next you’ll be guided into hair and makeup to meet YOUR team for the shoot. We want to make you feel as special and beautiful as possible, so soak it up! If you have some ideas for hair and makeup, you can share it with the team; otherwise they will do their thing. These girls are EXPERTS at what they do, so sit back, relax and enjoy being pampered.

The Shoot

Once your hair and makeup is finished, you will be guided step by step on what to do next. We’ll direct you throughout and suggest poses for you to emulate and work with you to create the best photos possible. The most important thing is to feel good. And don’t worry; it’s easier than it sounds. Once you are in the atmosphere of the shoot – wine, music of your choice, professional make up – you are going to feel like Marilyn Monroe with no reservations.

The Photos

Once we have shot for the allotted time, we say our goodbyes and you will leave feeling rejuvenated and empowered. Calie and I will then get to work reviewing and preparing your photos for your next visit. When you come back a week later, we will go through your photos and you are able to choose your favourite ones. We then edit and put all of your photos into a memorable album that you can have forever. You will always remember this day, and whether the photos are for you or a special someone, there is a sensation you will get after that is indescribable. Getting in touch with your inner sex goddess is a feeling like no other and we think every woman should experience it at least once in their lifetime. We hope to see you soon!

Shannon | Designers Edmonton

Despite being one of the most northern cities in Canada, Edmonton is exploding with fabulous fashion designers. Elise from Sweet Carousel Corsetry is one of those budding designers. Her custom designed corsets are beautiful made and amazing to be in. When we started Pink Blush a 3 years ago we got our hands one 15 of her hand made treasures for our clients to wear. Not every woman can afford to put down $500 on one piece of lingerie, so we did it for you. In the photos below you can check out Shannon sporting one of Elise's stunning works of art. Recently I heard form Elsie that she will be launching her own liner line as well. I saw one of the new custom pieces on her facebook page just the other day, and my jaw dropped.
