Unlearning the Lies: How We Were Taught to Hate Our Bodies
Somewhere along the way, we learned to look at our bodies with scrutiny instead of love.
Not because we chose to.
Not because we didn’t try to love ourselves.
But because the world started whispering in our ears before we even had a chance to form our own opinions.
And those whispers? They were loud.
They sounded like:
“She’s let herself go.”
“You’d be prettier if you wore makeup.”
“Real women don’t wear that.”
“Cover up.”
“Not like that.”
Women are constantly told how to exist. And most of it boils down to this: be desirable, but not too much. Be confident, but only if you fit the mold.
It’s no wonder so many of us stand in front of the mirror and only see flaws.
Where Did Those Beliefs Come From?
When women come into my studio and start pointing out everything they hate about their bodies—belly rolls, stretch marks, facial features they’ve tried to hide—I always ask:
“Who taught you to feel this way about yourself?”
That voice in your head saying you’re too much or not enough?
It usually isn’t yours.
It might sound like you now, but it started somewhere else:
💔 A parent who criticized your weight
💔 A coach who made a comment
💔 An ex who made you feel unworthy
💔 A magazine cover that made “perfection” look effortless
These beliefs get passed down like family heirlooms, and if we’re not careful, we start gifting that same shame to ourselves every single day.
Breaking the Pattern
I’ve been there, too.
There were parts of my body I didn’t want anyone to see.
Parts I hid. Parts I wished I could change.
But when I took a step back, I realized those criticisms weren’t born inside me—they were planted.
Once I knew that, I could start the real work:
Unlearning. Reclaiming. Rewriting.
Now, when I catch myself speaking harshly to the woman in the mirror, I pause.
I say:
“I’m sorry, love. You don’t deserve that.”
And I offer her a softer truth. One rooted in kindness instead of shame.
This is a practice. And it’s powerful.
The Courage to Be Seen
So many of my clients are terrified of one thing:
Being seen. Truly seen.
They fear the camera will catch something “unflattering.”
They worry their partner might notice a new roll or wrinkle.
They imagine the worst-case scenario if someone finds out they’re not flawless.
But the truth?
Most people don’t notice the things you obsess over.
And the ones who do—the ones who judge or mock or walk away? They don’t belong in your life anyway.
So what if you said yes to the shoot?
Yes to the dress?
Yes to the version of you that’s done apologizing?
Your Body Was Never the Problem
You were never the problem.
Your body was never broken.
Your worth never depended on being smooth, thin, quiet, or cute.
Your body is the home you live in.
You’re allowed to love living in it.
You’re allowed to feel good here.
You’re allowed to take up space. To be seen. To be celebrated.
And that’s exactly what we do in my studio.
We reclaim that space.
We celebrate you—not the version you think the world wants, but the real, radiant, beautifully imperfect version that’s been there all along.
A Question for You
Who handed you the script you’re living by?
What if you tore it up and wrote a new one?
Because the woman on the other side of shame and fear?
She’s free. She’s powerful. And she’s ready to rise.

The world taught you to hate your body before you even understood it.
But babe, you were never the problem.
Your body doesn’t need to shrink to be worthy.
Your beauty doesn’t need validation to be real.
Your power doesn’t need permission.
What if you stopped apologizing for the way you look…
And started celebrating the way you exist?

Being fully seen in a world that’s told you to hide?
That’s not vanity. That’s not weakness.
That’s a f*cking power move.
My studio is where shame goes to die.
Where cellulite gets celebrated.
Where softness is sexy.
Where you learn to meet yourself with love—maybe for the first time in years.
This is about more than photos.
It’s about becoming the version of yourself that no longer lives in fear.

📸 Instagram Post #3: Rewrite the Script

If the script running in your head sounds like:
“I’m not good enough.”
“I need to lose weight first.”
“I hate the way I look…”
You didn’t write that.
But you can rewrite it.
And when you do, your whole life opens up.
That’s what this work is really about. Not just sexy photos (although, yes, you’ll get those too). It’s about finally learning to speak to yourself like someone worth loving.
